One-Stop Impeller Manufacturing Process

No outsourcing between casting, machining and finishing. Every step happens inside Matson, so quality data and lead times stay under our control.

Casting

Investment & Sand Casting

Two casting routes covering most industrial impeller geometries — from precision investment casting for tight-tolerance vane profiles to sand casting for larger or simpler impellers.

  • Investment casting (lost wax) — complex closed and semi-open vanes
  • Sand casting — larger pump and blower impellers
  • Casting + finish machining as a combined route
  • Material verification and casting documentation on request

CNC machining

3-Axis & 5-Axis CNC Machining

Cast or billet impellers are machined on CNC centers to bring critical interfaces — bore, hub, mounting face, vane surfaces — into drawing tolerance.

  • 3-axis machining for hubs, bores and mounting features
  • 5-axis machining for vane surfaces and complex geometries
  • Casting + finish machining route for cost-effective production
  • Tolerance, finish and inspection per drawing

Surface treatment

Polishing, Passivation & Coatings

Surface treatment is matched to fluid, corrosion environment and visual requirement. Stainless impellers are typically polished and passivated; carbon steel impellers are coated for corrosion or wear resistance.

  • Mechanical polishing and electropolishing for stainless impellers
  • Passivation per stainless steel surface specifications
  • Anti-corrosion and wear-resistant coatings on request
  • As-cast and machined finishes for industrial-grade applications

Balancing & QC

Dynamic Balancing & Inspection

For rotating impellers, dynamic balancing is part of the manufacturing process — not an external service. Each shipment can include dimensional reports, material certificates and balancing data.

  • Dynamic balancing to drawing or application requirement
  • Dimensional inspection of bore, hub, OD and mounting surfaces
  • Material certificates and grade verification
  • Optional NDT for high-criticality projects

Quality Control

Every impeller passes through a defined quality control routine. For OEM and export buyers, the documentation chain is what makes a supplier trustworthy.

Material Certificates

Verified material grade and chemistry documentation for each casting batch.

Dimensional Reports

Critical dimensions checked and reported against the customer drawing.

Balancing Data

Dynamic balancing results provided when application or drawing requires it.

Manufacturing FAQ

Common questions from purchasing teams and engineering buyers.

Do you cast and machine in-house?

Yes. Casting, CNC machining, surface treatment and balancing are all done inside Matson, not outsourced.

Which casting method is right for my impeller?

Investment casting suits tight-tolerance and complex vane geometries. Sand casting suits larger or simpler designs. We recommend the route based on your drawing, material and quantity.

Do you offer 5-axis CNC?

Yes, for vane surfaces and complex geometries that require simultaneous multi-axis machining.

What surface treatments are available?

Mechanical polishing, electropolishing, passivation and protective coatings. The choice depends on material, fluid and operating environment.

Is dynamic balancing standard?

Dynamic balancing is performed when the application or drawing requires it, with balancing data available on request.

What documents do I receive with the shipment?

Material certificate, dimensional report and — when relevant — balancing data and inspection records.
